The Joy of Love: Pope Francis’ Love Letter to the Church

Tuesdays:   January 3, 17, 24, 31 and February 7

7:00-8:30 p.m. - Room 2, 3 & 4

Lead by Prof. Gene Giuliano

Cost:  $15 per person

Pope Francis’ apostolic exhortation, Amoris Laetitia (The Joy of Love), has been the subject of debate and “mixed reviews.” On the one hand, it has been described as a love letter inviting all, especially married couples and families, to never stop growing in love, and as a call to the Church to realize her mission to live and love as a family.  On the other hand, some have expressed disappointment not so much in what Pope Francis says, but in what he doesn’t say.

Join us as we consider Pope Francis' perspective on marriage, sexuality, and family, and his expressed desire that the Church’s ministers reach out in mercy and compassion to those who struggle to incarnate those truths in their lives.

Religion and science have been at odds for centuries over whose view of reality is correct.  In recent decades this “either/or” competitive skirmish has begun to give way to a “both/and” complementary approach.  While acknowledging their different methods for arriving at the truth, scholars from both disciplines have been willing to dialogue with one another allowing for a more integrated way of understanding nature, the cosmos and the Mystery in which we live, move and have our being.  Believers need to be introduced to some of the fruits of this important conversation taking place between religion and science and see how it impacts the Church and culture.  Such will be the goal of this course.
