Our goal is to encourage the 5-8th grade youth to learn and practice our Catholic faith in a fun and interactive environment beyond our weekly celebration of the Mass. Ultimately, we are trying to guide and lead the youth into a deep and personal relationship with Jesus Christ. At this age, they spend more time with family than they do at church functions. This means that a child’s personal integration of the Faith is predominantly based on what they are experiencing at home. Therefore, Middle Ministries offers supplemental programming (such as Bridge and Crossroads) as a way to reinforce the values that the youth are experiencing at home.
The parent orientation was:
- A welcome to parents into GSCC Middle Ministries
- Background information on the programs, how they are structured and why
- An encouragement and a few ideas on how parents can embrace their role as primary catechists of their children.
- Supply printed calendars and information on events during the year (which can be found online)
One of the main takeaways from the orientation is that you as parents have a much greater influence on your children than anybody else. While this video was not shown at the parent meeting, it does a good job of demonstrating this point. There is a limited amount of time that you as parents can influence your children before they “leave the nest”. The amount of time ministries at Good Shepherd have to influence them is even less. Please watch the video, contemplate it, and consider how you can make every week with your child count.
The GSCC Middle Ministries programs are committed to making the most of the time we have with your children. We know that the middle school years are a crazy time to be a parent, so know that we are praying for you and your family!
