Catholic Respect Life - Hyde Amendment

The Hyde amendment and similar laws have protected taxpayers from funding elective abortion for 45 years. Without these protections billions of taxpayer dollars could be used to pay for abortion.

The Hyde amendment has been signed into law every year since 1976, whether the Congress and the White House were led by Republicans or Democrats.  Regardless of one’s view about abortion, there has been a consensus that taxpayers should not have to fund it.

The Hyde amendment and related laws have been credited with saving over 2.4 million babies in the 45 years of its existence.

There is a serious effort underway in Congress to force all taxpayers to pay for elective abortions.  The USCCB (the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops) is spearheading an effort to keep the Hyde Amendment and other similar laws to prevent our tax dollars from funding elective abortions and so save many lives.

The USCCB is asking everyone to please:

1.   Sign a Petition to tell Congress that your taxpayer dollars should not pay for abortions.  https://www.notaxpayerabortion.com/

2.   Contact elected officials to Congress.  (By signing the petition, an action alert will be sent out to the signer to ask them to contact their own US Senators and House Representative.  The message is already written and by providing a home address, the action alert can automatically send the message to the appropriate 3 elected officials.  It is so easy to contact your elected officials!)

3.   Encourage others to sign the petition and to contact their own elected officials to Congress. Every individual counts:  ask your spouse, adult children, friends!
