ALL SAINTS DAY
Holy Day, The Church in Glory
November 1
“Today we celebrate the Solemn Feast of All the Saints, as we remember those who have gone before us marked with the sign of faith and who have made their robes white in the Blood of the Lamb. They are the Communion of Saints in the heavenly banquet and we, the Church here on earth, are in communion with these holy ones of every time and place. They intercede for us that we persevere in faith as we await future glory. The Supper of
the Lamb is a foretaste of the Lord’s heavenly table that one day we will share with them.” Father Richard
All Saints Day, November 1, is a holy day of obligation. We encourage all to attend Mass! The Catechism of the Catholic Church explains holy days of obligation in this way: “On Sundays and other holy days of obligation, the faithful are to refrain from engaging in work or activities that hinder the worship owed to God, the joy proper to the Lord's Day, the performance of the works of mercy, and the appropriate relaxation of mind and body. Family needs or important social service can legitimately excuse from the obligation of Sunday rest. The faithful should see to it that legitimate excuses do not lead to habits prejudicial to religion, family life, and health” (CCC 2185).
